Since 2006, Marty Klein has been creating limited edition, archival prints in the photographic medium known as scanography. Over the past five years, his art has been featured in many local and regional exhibits. Most of the subjects portrayed - plants, flowers, mushrooms, etc. are either locally grown or foraged by the artist. The compositions, which look like a hybrid of photography and illustration, portray both familiar and less seen details from the natural world.

One stands outside his restaurant Mike & Tony's Pizzeria at Green Emporium in Colrain, the other large one is located on the site of the old Colrain Inn which is around the corner from the restaurant. The pyramids are in response to the Mayan Calendar which marks December 21st 2012 as "The End Of The World". In a world that we live in today we need a lot of HOPE.

Coffee Lift is a similar process to the traditional sugar-lift method, but substitutes non-toxic materials and yes, coffee, to create positive painterly marks that are subsequently etched into the copper plate. Using the exciting BIG (Baldwin's Ink Ground) and acrylic aquatint, we will experiment with step etches, open bite, multiple lifts and subtractive mark making to develop painterly etchings.
