Exhibition at Pera Museum in Istanbul show sheds light on Goya's dark etchings

Being the first exhibition in the Pera Museum dedicated to Goya, the graphic work exhibited is completed with paintings from different museums and collections.

UTRECHT.- Museum Catharijneconvent in Utrecht reserved two outstanding portraits with a London art dealer at the TEFAF in March of this year. Today the museum can announce that it has succeeded in buying them with the aid of the BankGiro Lottery, the Fund of the Rembrandt Association, the Mondriaan Fund and the Friends of Museum Catharijneconvent. The paintings are currently on display in the museum. Cornelis Jonson van Ceulen (1593-1661) was a portrait painter of Dutch descent who was born in London. He was held in high regard in the seventeenth century, first in London and then in the Dutch Republic after his arrival there in 1643. ASPEN, CO.- The Aspen Art Museum presents a rare exhibition of ceramic works by artist Lucio Fontana (Argentine-Italian, 1899-1968), on view from July 27 through October 7, 2012. Comprising over a dozen works from the early 1930s through the ‘60s, Lucio Fontana: Ceramics will be the first museum exhibition dedicated solely to this aspect of the artist’s groundbreaking work. NEW YORK, NY.- Born in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province in 1961, Lin Tianmiao is one of the first female artists from China to achieve international recognition. During the 1980s, Lin studied in the Fine Art Department of the Capital Normal University in Beijing. Following her studies, she moved to New York with her husband Wang Gongxin, a celebrated video artist. They returned to China in 1995, where they now reside. Early in her career, Lin worked as a successful textile designer, later translating her experience along with the crafts of weaving, sewing, and embroidery into her practice as a visual artist. Best known for her installations—such as The Proliferation of Thread Winding (1995) consisting of a bed of needles linked to individually hand-wrapped balls of white cotton thread, with a monitor depicting the artist's painstaking handicraft laid beneath a sheer pillowcase—Lin also works in sculpture, photography, video, and ... SALZBURG.- The multimedia installation 'cold forest' by Tim White-Sobieski is a delve into the world of mysticism. The exhibition consists of various mediums, including 8 mirror polished stainless steel scultures, cibachrome photographs, LED light sculptures and projections. This current project is another example in artist’s oeuvre of ideas in light and motion, space and scale, content and its meaning through various art mediums. Concentric light illumination is a key element in emphasizing every object within the installation. Every video and light source is precisely centered and concentrates on one sculpture at a time. The assembly of tree sculptures, which silhouettes sometime look like dragons or other mythical animals, is alike a crowd of people. NEW YORK, NY.- The Museum of Modern Art's fifth annual Film Benefit, to be held on December 3, will honor writer/director Quentin Tarantino, renowned for the Academy Award-winning films Pulp Fiction (1994) and Inglourious Basterds (2009), and earlier hit films Reservoir Dogs (1992), Jackie Brown (1997), Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003), and Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004), among others. Tarantino's latest film, Django Unchained, will be released by The Weinstein Company on December 25, 2012. BOSTON, MASS.- The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, together with the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway Conservancy and the Revere Hotel, announced that Brazilian artists Os Gemeos—a major force in public and urban art—will create two, large-scale murals in Boston as part of their exhibition opening Aug. 1 at the ICA. The new murals will be located in Dewey Square on the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway and on the Revere Hotel Boston Common, and will remain on view throughout the run of the ICA exhibition (Aug. 1 – Nov. 25). Os Gemeos will begin work on the murals later this week. COLLEGE PARK, MD.- The College of Arts and Humanities has appointed Curlee R. Holton the interim executive director of the David C. Driskell Center for the Study of the Visual Arts and Culture of African Americans and the African Diaspora (Driskell Center) at the University of Maryland, effective July 1, 2012. Holton was most recently the David M. and Linda Roth Professor of Art and Founding Director of the Experimental Printmaking Institute (EPI) at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. DETROIT, MICH.- The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit has been selected to present the Detroit Pavilion at the 2012 Shanghai Biennale on Oct. 2, 2012–March 31, 2013. With the ninth annual Biennale focused on the theme of “Resources,” “Revisit,” “Reform” and “Republic,” curator Rebecca Mazzei has utilized the framework of theater to exhibit Detroit’s multifaceted art scene. San Francisco Bay Area furnishings for auction at Bonhams in August
