WASHINGTON, DC.- The Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden commissioned internationally renowned artist Barbara Kruger to create a site-specific installation for one of the museum’s most-visited public spaces. Opening Aug. 20, “Belief+Doubt” (2012) will fill the lower-level lobby and extend into the newly relocated museum bookstore. Approximately 6,700 square feet of surface—including walls, floor and escalator sides—will be covered in text-printed vinyl, surrounding viewers with lettering up to 12 feet high in a high-contrast color scheme of red, white and black. “Belief+Doubt” speaks to the social relations and networks of power that define daily life. At a time when the value of certitude is taken for granted, Kruger says she is “interested in introducing doubt.” Large swaths of the floor are covered in open-ended questions (“WHO IS BEYOND THE LAW? Guggi is a founding member of the legendary avant-garde band Virgin Prunes.

MONACO.- His sculptures are iconic, his painted works of our time. Guggi’s “new works” have random extracts in Cyrillic taken from Tolstoy’s “War and Peace” for the feeling the letters evoke and not their meaning. Extracts of “War and Peace”, albeit a found object and source of material, uncannily mirrors Guggi’s own religious journey. Tolstoy’s “Pierre” is a grueling account of the tormented journey in terms of reconciling his deep religious belief and struggle to balance the “prose and the passion”. A meditative stillness, perhaps from his pious past, evokes a grandeur that is solemn and interiorized. Like a dear friend, a still life by Morandi, Guggi transforms traditional subject matter and leitmotifs into the extraordinary. The mysticism of Guggi’s bowl is an ambivalent leitmotif, simultaneously sacred and profane. It is a deep rooted element taken from his childhood, and was used as a form of ... More

According to the court papers, Prokopi and Dallas-based auction house Heritage Auctions were in negotiations with Mongolia's president to settle the dispute when the U.S. filed a seizure lawsuit to obtain the dinosaur.
