Midnight Garden Sunflowers and Daisies
24X20
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas Fourteen Angels I remember when I was very small, sitting on the floor in the bedroom I shared with my three sisters playing records until midnight in the summer months. My favorite song was Fourteen Angels, from the Hansel and Gretel story, sung as a duet by the boy and girl who played the roles. My mother scraped together her left over money from groceries to buy us the record collection. We lived in a small house with leaky ceilings and wore hand me downs and did not have the money to join drill team, or go to dinner at fancy restaurants, and we never had a family vacation. But Mom always made sure we had books and music, and a weekly trip to the library to find new treasures, especially during the summer. I am very fortunate to have one of the best Moms in the whole world. I hope each of you has someone you love as much, and who has always brought music into your life. When at night I go to sleep Fourteen angels watch do keep; Two my head are guarding, Two my feet are guiding; Two are on my right hand, Two are on my left hand, Two who warmly cover Two who o'er me hover, Two to whom 'tis given To guide my steps to heaven. |

Live from Flower Mound Studio...... On Video: Painting Roses alla prima I was tickled pink to be featured on Contemporary Fine Artists International this month for my rose painting video. And then the teensy weensy little light bulb went off in my head - maybe you'd like to see it too! Here it is, short and sweet. Break out the popcorn and tune into my Youtube channel to see all of my little mini how-to videos - including a new sunflower clip I added today. What a great excuse to make popcorn. With extra butter. And don't forget to share with the four-footed helpers! Disclaimer: all snoring in the background of Flower Mound Art Studio productions is solely the fault of Howard Pee Pugpants, whose lovely flat gorilla nose is a sight to behold, and deserves its very own video someday. White Wave Hydrangeas and Larkspur 24X20 Oil on Linen Board Purchase Information New January workshop announced
Join me January 11-13, 2013, in Irving, Texas for a three day workshop painting flowers and flower gardens. Whether you are new to oils or have been painting for years, we will paint bright, loose florals building brilliant color from transparent underpaintings. You are welcome to join the classes just to see my painting demonstrations each day, if you prefer to paint from your own studio. I complete six flower demonstrations in every 3-day workshop, so you'll have many opportunities to photograph and document the lessons for later reference and practice at your convenience. Read more about my January workshop Wave Hydrangeas and Larkspur was my demonstration painting for my workshop last month at the Jaycee Parks Center for the Arts, shown step by step here. This three day workshop kicked off with a nice Dallas style heat wave, but that didn't dampen the spirits of my lively bunch of students! I had ladies and gents from all sorts of interesting places, including Illinois, Florida, California, Louisiana and (of course) Texas. I packed up the beloved travel Keurig and a variety of coffee flavors and a bunch of fresh double chocolate cookies so we had plenty of caffeine and chocolate to keep us going all day. Check out the lovely hydrangeas my students created - they started with white flowers, what a brave AND talented bunch!
Step 1 - start with transparents build color in layers blend where colors meet; use your dry towel to pat away thick areas of transparent paint before beginning your opaques Step 2 - painting wet on wet, place your opaques wipe between each brush stroke, especially with whites Step 3 - build a path into the painting create an entryway at the base that leads the eye upward and around the arrangement, rather than off the canvas Check out this amazing group of artists! |

Annie is not pleased with this development... Studio Director AnnieBee issues an SOS The pug pile effect was in full force in AnnieBee's studio last week. This pug weather phenomena not often seen so early in the season was brought about due to unseasonably cool summer temperatures at The Medina Foster Home for Wayward Pugs recently. Annoying brother Howard took matters into his own paws and improvised with a nice soft pillow, much to Annie's consternation, compounded by the shockingly unconcerned attitude of the puparazzi. |
