CINCINNATI, OH.- Sol LeWitt (1928-2007), one of the 20th century’s most prolific artists, was associated with two major art movements: Conceptual Art and Minimalism. He worked in a wide variety of mediums including wall drawings, structures (a term he preferred to sculpture), painting, printmaking and photography. The exhibition at Carl Solway Gallery focuses on his prints and structures. LeWitt made prints throughout his career and his extensive list of exhibitions includes two print retrospectives, in 1974 at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and in 1986 at the Tate Gallery in London. LeWitt was best known for reducing art to its essential elements. Working with the most basic of shapes (spheres, triangles, cubes, quadrilaterals) and colors (red, yellow, blue, black and white), he organized his components into seemingly logical systems that were often executed in series. He devised instructions for his wall dr ... More

NEW YORK (AP).- An agreement that paves the way for the completion of the Sept. 11 museum at ground zero was reached on the eve of the 11th anniversary of the terror attacks. The memorandum of understanding between the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the foundation that controls the National September 11 Memorial & Museum was announced Monday. The museum was supposed to open this month, but construction all but ceased a year ago because of a funding squabble between the foundation and the Port Authority, which owns the World Trade Center site. Three powerful political figures became entangled in the dispute: The governors of New York and New Jersey control the Port Authority, while New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is the foundation's chairman. He said Weiss paid $70,000 for the small white house with a sagging front porch overhang in a western Louisville neighborhood made up of mostly neat, modest homes. "The guy's a huge Ali fan, and that's what kind of spurred this," Lambrechts said. The home already has a state historical marker out front recognizing the residence as the home of Ali when he was a boy named Cassius Clay. Lucy Raven presents three new works at the Hammer Museum
LOS ANGELES, CA.- —Lucy Raven uses animation as the foundation for her explorations into the relationship of still photography to the moving image. During her 2011 Hammer Residency, Raven embarked on an ongoing investigation of the invention, growth, and mainstream acceptance of 3D cinema, from its roots in early animation to the current global infrastructure that has been established to support its newfound popularity. In the process, she began to amass an exhaustive archive of film and sound test patterns. Key to achieving high-quality image and sound, these test patterns are usually seen only by projectionists. Raven’s new works press these esoteric image and sound fragments into use as both raw material and subject-matter unto itself, freighted with the patina of analog cinema in a digital age. Hammer Projects: Lucy Raven features three new works that promise to ... More
