Lauren Halsey, 'emajendat'

From the Current Issue

Lauren Halsey: emajendat

Martin Herbert is urged to free his mind at the Serpentine gallery

Lauren Halsey asks what a funk aesthetic might look like, might feel like, in the now, as an expression of community, pride and aesthetic generosity in embattled times, and as a way of maintaining physical contact in an increasingly atomised world.

From the Back Catalogue

The Listener

Lawrence Abu Hamdan interviewed by Chris McCormack

first published in 2017, now free online

When Amnesty International approached us here at Forensic Architecture to help uncover the conditions of Saydnaya prison in Syria, the only way to access this place was through the memories of survivors. The project demanded some new forms of representation to document the prison because it was so intangible.

Videos of the symposium presentations and discussions are now available on Art Monthly's website.

'Future Climates: Artists and Curators respond to the Climate Crisis' was a series of talks developed in collaboration between Art Monthly and the School of Arts and Cultures, Newcastle University. The series ran throughout 2024 and brought together international artists, curators, writers to reflect on how cultural practices can respond to the climate crisis and its complex, societal, political, economic, historical entanglements with a specific focus on practices and thinking that go beyond aesthetic and conceptual engagement and set about making a real-life difference.
